Against the Waxman-Markey / Kerry-Boxer Climate Bills

Senators John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) are pressing ahead to win Senate approval for their “cap and trade” climate bill that closely mirrors the dangerous Waxman-Markey bill that narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives in June.

As a registered voter, I strongly oppose the Waxman-Markey climate “cap and trade” bill narrowly passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and urge the Senate to reject similar legislation (such as the Kerry-Boxer draft climate bill) because it will:

  • Cost jobs in my community,
  • Unfairly place new cost burdens on families in select states while people living in the wealthiest states pay nothing,
  • Further hurt the U.S. economy, and
  • Jeopardize our energy security.

Congress should focus on promoting the creation of new jobs, not destroying American manufacturing and resource industries.
